Telling Tales: Writing Dramatic Monologues and Narrative
Midge Goldberg
Do you like telling stories? Imagining different jobs, homes, lives? Pretending to be someone else? Eavesdropping? Dramatic monologues and narrative poems give you a chance, like in fiction, to tell a story, be someone else, do something you’ve never done before. We’ll discuss creating characters, dialog, place, and narrative arc. We'll read poems from many different points of view--fictional, historical, and mythical. We’ll examine the role the poem’s listener plays. And we’ll discuss the role of meter, form, and format that contribute to the story. Join us for a bit of storytelling!
